Clayton-le-Moors man wins BBC1's Total Wipeout

AN East Lancashire man has scooped £10,000 after he triumphed on TV’s toughest assault course.

Fearless Jeremy Kemp, 38, took on the challenge of BBC’s Total Wipeout, presented by Richard Hammond, after being inspired by his family — and a bid to out do his twin brother.

Mr Kemp, who lives in Clayton-le-Moors and works as operations director at Padiham Glass, took first place on the show after battling it out against 19 opponents at the course in the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires.

He was the fastest qualifier in the first round of the show, which is filmed at a purpose-built course and features a series of challenges based around huge pools of mud and water.

He then completed two further rounds before taking on the Wipeout Zone, a gruelling course testing his endurance, stamina, strength and balance.

Mr Kemp, a football, cycling and badminton enthusiast, said: “It was a fantastic experience and I was so happy to win.

“It was a very tough task completing all of the events in two days but it was great fun.

“My family egged me on to apply but I never thought I would win - although I am very competitive.

“My twin brother Jonathan got on the show in 2008 but didn’t get past the qualifier. I just wanted to do better than him and impress my family.”

Watching the show back in Clayton was wife Michelle and children Jordan, 16, Mia, 13, Jaydem 11 and James, two.

The episode was filmed in November after Mr Kemp impressed at a Manchester audition.

But he was heartbroken after being invited back to take part in a champion of champions final only to miss out because of broken leg, suffered in a football game.

He added: “We were treated very well while in Argentina and had a great time.

"I had to go on my own and you are just thrown in at the deep end with 20 other contestants.

Awww, broke his leg and missed out on winning more money. £10000 and clearly a well paid job not enough for you? Oh, and your twin brother got on the show as well! So what? Oh, and you only went on the show to compete with him! Hellooo!! Is that the only serious thing in your life or that you need to live for? Can we now go back to reporting very serious problems people face in the world? Instead of celebrating what is clearly a self-indulgant and insignificant piece of news. Or someone who very clearly already has much going for them in life yet that appears not to be enough! Bet he's an utter show off as well!

Oh, and there's nothing 'fearless' about what he's done, either, except very obvious greed! And the need to have his name further printed in your newspaper. People like him should be grateful for what they have.

Davidoff, why the vitriol? A little bit of 'happy' news about somebody from the area. I think your comments are uncalled for. This is a local paper for local people and a smile at a story now and again can only be a good thing.

Davidoff, apart from being a very sad person who by the looks of it has to much time on his hands, i also feel i need to tell you that when people, reach goals they have set in there life and achieve them, the last thing they need is people like you who obviously leads a very dull and boring life to make pathetic comments like you have not only about me, but about 50 other people i guess, and thats only a estamate, i suggest that if you have nothing posative to say about life, well look in the mirror and say all the negative things to yourself, and please try and stop yourself sharing these stupid and depressing comments. there is to anough sadness in the world without you adding to it. ps please feel free to comment ( i am sure you will )

Davidoff, You are obviously a very lonely, pathetic individual. To so bitter and incenced at another persons success and achievements, one can only assume that you have achieved nothing or have anything to be proud off. I wonder why I sense a touch of the 'The Green-eyed monster'. How can the entertainment and humour he brought to our homes possibly be a negative thing? He made all his family and friends very proud of him.

Davidoff

I can only re-iterate all the good comments above.

What really stands out in your jealous tirade -is the fact that there seems something wrong in the fact he has a "well paid job". The fact that Jeremy has got off his backside and worked extremely hard to make a better life for himself, his wife and his kids is something to be admired. Perhaps it is his obvious physical fitness that intimidates you - a trait that is often shown by those with "Little Man Syndrome".

Heartwarming stories of people doing well is always appreciated - especially when all there seems is bad news out there - either re the economy, violent crime, drugs etc.

I for one am really proud to say my Cousin won Total Wipeout. I hope your sad, pathetic post on this website has made you as proud of yourself.

Well, well Davidoff. I shall not stoop to your level in slating someone I don't even know, but I will say that I too must be self indulgent as I appeared on the same show. I, like Jeremy and Johnny, gave my family a lot of fun and amusement, and tried hard to achieve a goal that we had set for ourselves. Now you too have had your little bit of the limelight, but isn't it sad that your light is shrouded in murky ill feeling and resentfulness, whereas Jezz and Johnny's light brightened up a saturday evening for millions of people.

I have known Jonathon Jeremy Kieran n family since I was a little girl they have had some sad times in their lifes but carried on thru and come out on top. Jeremy has worked hard to get where he is in his job and from personal experience can say he is a truely great boss and good friend to have. All the family are lovely and would help anyone out so keep your petty pathetic comments to yourself and geta life. Well done Jeremy!!! x

After reading the silly comments made by "davidoff" i felt the need the need to speak my mind as i appeared along side Jeremy in Total Wipeout and came second to him in the final losing by just ten seconds!! I can honestley say that i could not of wished for a better person to win the show! A true gentleman from the start he was very entertaining to watch in one of the only shows on tv that all the family can sit down together and watch as a family!
You sound like a very bitter man Davidoff but maybe there is hope for you yet?..... there is an opening in Coronation street at the moment playing the part of Blanche? i think you would be perfect for the part as a massive bearer of doom and gloom!!
Long live Jeremy Kemp "The legend of Lancashire"

I totally agree with Lancs Lass, I too work with Jeremy and he's a lovely person, as are other members of his family that I've had the pleasure of meeting. I always say "If you've nowt nice to say then keep your mouth shut". The show was very entertaining to watch and Jeremy showed just how focused he is, well done Jezz and well done all the other competitors, I couldn't have done what you did. Yvonne x
