CADOS latest production in its ‘premier season’ The Elephant Man opened last night.

Based on the true story of John Merrick, who was born with a disease that affected his appearance, it’s about how he both repulsed and fascinated Victorian London. Director David Reid said: “In this play, Merrick appears to be the normal person and it’s the rest of society that is deformed either through morals or behaviour.

“Martin Clarke stars as sympathetic surgeon Frederick Treves, with the rest of the cast bringing London to life, often doubling roles in this very physical and inventive production.”

The production by Chorley Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society, at Chorley Little Theatre, runs until Saturdayat 7.30pm every night. Tickets cost £6 and £8 from Malcolm’s Musicland 01257 264362 or www.chorleytheatre.com.
