New Girl is set to return for a fifth series.

The flat-sharing sitcom, starring Zooey Deschanel, has been renewed by Fox for another run, according to TV Line.

It is currently airing its fourth season with the US broadcaster, with the finale set for next week, and now Fox has announced that it will be back later this year for a fifth time, when it will celebrate its 100th episode.

New Girl also stars Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris and Hannah Simone, and filming is reportedly already under way as bosses are trying to get a head start on Zooey’s upcoming maternity leave, as her pregnancy won’t be written into the show.

It has also been announced that John Cho will join the cast as a guest star, when Zooey’s Jess meets his character while on jury duty. Saturday Night Live’s Taran Killam is set to make an appearance, too.

Fox’s entertainment president David Madden said: “Four seasons in, New Girl continues to be one of the smartest and most relatable comedies on television. The writing is razor-sharp, the ensemble is consistently hilarious, and we couldn’t be more proud of the entire New Girl team.

“We absolutely love this show and we’re so excited to bring it back for Season Five.”

Since it began on Fox in 2011, New Girl has been nominated for five Golden Globes and five Primetime Emmys. It airs on E4 in the UK, which will show season four later this year.
