Harrison Ford starred as retired police officer Rick Deckard in the cult sci-fi movie released in 1982, and more than 30 years on, Scott has been working on a sequel to the original.

But in comments he made to Variety in an interview for his new film Exodus: Gods And Kings, the Oscar-nominated director revealed that filming is due to start within the next year with “someone else” at the helm, while he will work as a producer on the project.

However, Ridley confirmed Harrison Ford will be back as Rick Deckard.

He said: “Harrison is very much part of this one, but really it’s about finding him; he comes in in the third act.”

Ridley developed the script with the original film’s co-screenwriter, Hampton Fancher.

He revealed: “We talked at length about what it could be, and came up with a pretty strong three-act storyline, and it all makes sense in terms of how it relates to the first one.”
