Chorley Citizen review by Chris Gee from September 18, 2007.
A recent addition to Chorley's pub scene, the Sir Henry Tate, is centrally located between the town's two markets.
A Lloyd's bar, part of the JD Wetherspoon chain, the pub has a large split level downstairs area with numerous tables and a more intimate upstairs area with booths and views overlooking the Flat Iron.
Visiting for a swift weekday lunch, my friend and I were surprised at how busy it was, with a true cross-section of clientele enjoying a value lunch.
The menu is extensive with all main courses priced around £5, with the menu also offering more expensive steaks and grills as well as a range of pasta and various burgers.
Deciding to plump for the deli-range of the menu, the southern-fried chicken wrap was crispy and the mixed salad leaves, fresh and well-presented.
A grilled pannini of Wiltshire ham and gouda cheese was packed with filling and had obviously used top quality ingredients, again, care had obviously been taken over the side salad.
The pub stocks a wide array of drinks including hand-pumped real ales and a dizzying range of bottled lagers and serves numerous wines by the glass.
One minor glitch was a few minutes delay in ordering drinks and food, as the bar seemed to be manned by only two staff, even though it was the lunch time rush.
The ethos of the Wetherspoons chain is to serve good quality food at knockdown prices.
The food came quickly, was hot, tasty and our plates were taken away promptly with the waitress asking if we had enjoyed the meal, which we certainly had.
