Television presenter Caroline Flack and EastEnders actor Jake Wood might have scored the highest marks on yesterday's Strictly Come Dancing but it was Pixie Lott and Alison Hammond who stole the limelight.

Pop singer Pixie Lott was reduced to tears during her romantic rumba to Sam Smith's Stay With Me while Alison Hammond stormed on to the dance floor to take on the Samba to Beyonce.

Judge Craig Revel Horwood told Pixie her performance was " exquisite " as she admitted: "I wanted to get into character and I got a bit overwhelmed."

Alison threw everything into a confident and energetic routine in a tasselled gold dress leaving the judges scrambling for words.

Panellist Bruno Tonioli joked that she "has plenty of booty to work and she worked it well" while Craig told her: "You gave that fringing the time of its life".

The highest praise was reserved for Caroline and Jake who both lead with 33 points after their stunning performances.

Jake got into character working his jive moves to Elvis Presley's All Shook Up while Caroline wowed the audience with her Quickstep to We Go Together from the movie Grease.

Judy Murray who has received poor comments and low scores from the judges in the last few weeks received only a marginally better reaction for her tango.

Craig told her: "You had a bizarre vacant look on your face like someone who has just been lobotomised."

Bruno added: "With that throw I thought you were going to Scotland, I thought we were never going to see you again."

But she was reassured by judge Darcey Bussell that there were "signs of improvement".

Even a brief appearance from her sons Andy and Jamie via skype did not offer her much reassurance, with Jamie quipping that her stiffness would come in handy for the tango and Andy adding that he would watch her routines to help him fall asleep.

Her tennis champion sons have promised to come and make it to the live shows but have yet to appear.

BBC Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills and antique experts Tim Wonnacott will have to put their faith in the public after scoring miserably low in the latest round of Strictly Come Dancing.

Along with their dance partners they hit the bottom of the leader board, putting them in danger of a dance off this evening.

Scott was awarded just two points by Craig while Bruno described it as "American Tragedy" rather than an American Smooth .

The celebrity dancers will return tonight for the results show at 7.20pm on BBC One with a live performance from Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett.

Scott is the 11-8 favourite with bookmaker Coral to be eliminated next from the dance contest following tonight's live show.

It puts Judy at 2-1 to get the boot this evening, while Tim has also been chalked up at 2-1.

In the outright betting, Coral has cut the odds on Jake winning the show into 2-1 from 9-4 after he topped the leaderboard once again.

Coral spokesman John Hill said: "Scott picked up the lowest score of all the contestants so we think he is the favourite to leave in the results show. As soon as he performed, there was a flood of bets on him to be eliminated next.

"Jake Wood is continuing to impress with each week and he still tops the outright betting to win the competition."
