Former Xtra Factor host Caroline Flack has crossed the floor to join rival show Strictly Come Dancing as one of 15 celebrities battling it out to win the glitterball trophy.

Caroline, best known for appearing on the X Factor spin-off show, is the 12th star confirmed for the BBC ballroom show.

She said: " Ever since I was a presenter on CBBC and used to see the Strictly judges walking around Television Centre, I have wanted to be on the show. I am so excited to get started and I just want to get through the first dance with no mistakes... plus I really want to master my 'dance face'!"

She joins other famous faces including Frankie Bridge, Judy Murray, Mark Wright and Pixie Lott in this year's show.

The final three celebrity contestants will be confirmed live on The One Show tomorrow.

The new series will be the first one without veteran host Sir Bruce Forsyth, with Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman sharing the presenting job.

Caroline tweeted: "Gahhhhhhh! I'm taking part in this years Strictly ...I haven't been this nervous since I entered the Norfolk Disco Dance championship 1992".

Meanwhile, it has been revealed the Strictly launch show is to clash directly with The X Factor in the TV schedules.

The opener for the 12th series of the BBC dancing competition will air on BBC One on Sunday, September 7 at 8pm.

That means the special episode - which introduces the celebrities of the new series and reveals their professional partners - will go head-to-head with the latest episode of the ITV talent show showing at the same time.

There have been overlaps for the two channel's rival flagship shows in the past, with Strictly seen as winning the ratings battle in 2013.

X Factor begins on Saturday August 30 with the early auditions stages and will air on Saturday and Sunday nights.
