Jedward are ahead of the EU president - Ribble Valley MP

RIBBLE Valley MP Nigel Evans said it was ‘rather bizarre’ that more people were interested in X Factor’s Jedward twins than the future president of the European Council.

Mr Evans said there was a “lack of democracy” in last night’s EU choice because MPs had not been given a vote.

During Commons exchanges on upcoming business, he asked Leader of the House Harriet Harman: “Do you not believe that it is rather bizarre that more people are interested in the future of John and Edward from X Factor than about somebody who can have an impact ... on the way that we’re governed in this country?”

Ms Harman said she could not work out how X Factor related to the “important issue of making sure there was a coherent voice for Europe”.

EU leaders gathered in Brussels to choose their first full-time president and foreign affairs high representative.

Twins John and Edward Grimes, known as Jedward, have made it to the final six acts on ITV1’s X Factor, despite complaints about their singing ability.

Earlier this month, X Factor fan Gordon Brown told a Manchester radio station he did not think they were very good.
