IT may have been a warm-up for this weekend’s V Festival but by anyone’s standards, this was pretty hot stuff.

Tickets for the show sold out within hours of the date being announced and the fans celebrated getting up close and personal with their heroes.

Any doubts that Kelly Jones and Co may have been tempted to simply ‘go through the motions’ and save themselves for bigger things were blown away from the first chord.

This was a pure, unadulterated, rock and roll show.

It was loud — very loud — and carried the audience along on a wave of euphoria all night.

With an impressive stage and lighting show, it proved King George’s can handle a big gig.

Frontman Jones is every inch a rock star, strutting around stage with a nonchalant swagger and belting out favourites such as Have A Nice Day, A Thousand Trees and a solo version of Maybe Tomorrow.

A new song — You’re My Star — also got an airing and proved there’s much life in the band still left.

No doubt around 2,000 people will wake up this morning with ears still ringing but they’ll know it was well worth the sacrifice.
