THE FIRST phase of a development that will see around 100 new homes built in Daneshouse and Stoneyholme areas of Burnley has been unveiled.

Plans for 50 new two-, three- and four-bedroom homes in Oswald Street were submitted to Burnley Council this week.

Meanwhile the developers staged four events to talk through their plans with the community.

Over 120 people attended the events held by Gleeson Homes, keen to learn more about the three proposed developments in Oswald Street, Abel Street and New Hall Street.

Sarah Mardsen, sales director for Gleeson Homes, said: “We had a very positive response from all the residents and businesses that attended the events.

“There were no objections.

"People appeared to be really enthusiastic about the prospect of new homes and development in the area.

“Each home will have parking on-the-plot plus a generously-sized garden which proved very popular with residents living in an area which is currently dominated by smaller terrace properties.

"We hope to obtain planning permission early next year with the first homes released for sale in Spring 2012."

Planning applications for the two other developments are set to go in in the next few weeks.

Coun Shah Hussain said: “After years of campaigning for houses to be built for sale to the local community, Gleeson has come forward with a wonderful development, which meets the needs of the community.”

Ms Marsden said: “We have worked closely with Burnley Borough Council to ensure we propose a private housing scheme which fully meets the requirements of local residents.

“We hope to obtain planning permission early next year with the first homes released for sale in spring 2012.”
