New PM set for a challenge

This week witnesses a huge change in British politics as Gordon Brown takes over the reigns of power from Tony Blair.

Tony has served as Prime Minister for ten years and has been leader of the Labour Party for 13 years.

Following the special leadership conference held in Manchester, Gordon Brown became the new leader of the Labour Party with Harriet Harman as his deputy.

In order to be appointed Prime Minister he has to visit Buckingham Palace where he kisses hands' with the Queen which is part of the tradition for all Prime Minister before they can take office.

This will all take place tomorrow afternoon and he will begin his duties as Prime Minister on the same day.

The size of the challenge for Gordon Brown can not be underestimated but he has been preparing for this over a number of years and I am confident that he will do his very best to ensure that the government responds to the priorities of the public.

Gordon has already expressed his commitment to further improving public services and in particular looking to address the issue of housing.
