I was pleased to visit Hillside Methodist Church for the dedication of the garden of remembrance and the re-developments in the church hall.
There was a short service in the church and then the opportunity for everyone to enjoy the new garden and hall refurbishments.
Music was provided by the Brinscall St John's School Band.
Hillside Methodist Church is over 100 years old and has been the scene of many celebrations over the years - one of the more famous being the wedding of the celebrated contralto Kathleen Ferrier.
More recently Hillside has been known for its musical success both within the area and further afield.
The event was well attended and members of the congregation will no doubt enjoy the new garden of remembrance.
Last weekend marked the retirement of Canon Ken Barrett at St George's Church.
Ken is extremely well known within the local community and his period at St George's spans over 23 years.
Ken's enthusiasm and commitment to the local community has been second to none and his special interest in education made him an ideal chair of governors.
I attended the last service given by Ken at St George's Church on Sunday and by speaking to parishioners it is clear that he will be missed.
No doubt Ken has plans for using his time following his retirement and I wish Ken and his family all the very best for the future.
Meanwhile Pupils at St Peter's Primary School took part in the Take a Friend to School Challenge.
The pupils all gathered on the playground and formed a circle urging world leaders who are due to attend the G8 summit this summer to make education a priority.
Millions of children across the world are denied access to education due to lack of infrastructure, poverty and war.
The pupils of St Peter's sent their message to German Chancellor Merkel to make sure that the G8 countries make the increasing access to education their priority.
